Cooper’s Seafood House is a landmark destination in Scranton, PA owned by the Cooper family since 1948! This is one of the most decked out, visually interesting restaurants you will ever see.
The Bars and Restaurant
It all starts from the outside, where you will see the giant lighthouse. You will also probably notice the front end of the restaurant is shaped as a boat. There is an indoor bar and tables (there might be more than one, I’m honestly not sure I’ve seen the whole thing yet), an outdoor bar and tables on the deck, and yet another bar up at the top of the lighthouse. This place is big.
There is also a gift store inside with all sorts of interesting items including “The Office” themed gifts, as Cooper’s was famously featured on the show.
The Menu
There are a ton of options on the menu. I had the oysters once and they were very good, I was somewhat surprised to find that in Northeast Pennsylvania. The menu is mostly seafood as expected, however there are many other items to choose from. At the time of writing this, they offer Happy hour Monday – Thursday 5 pm to 7 pm – $1.25 Oysters & half price craft drafts, $5.99 Martinis Tuesday and Thursdays, and several more recurring specials.
The drink menu also offers plenty of options for both the classics and for those seeking more “seaside” beverages.
It is worth noting that Cooper’s Seafood House also offers catering services if you are planning a large event.
The Decor
The decor is the real draw here aside from the great food and drinks (and friendly service!). Throughout all the rooms inside and out, there is enough to look at to keep you busy for days. Quite distracting I may add if you are there with company, but in a great way. You can even take a virtual tour on the website, but I’d recommend showing up and see it for yourself. And be sure not to miss the Elvis themed ladies’ room!
The Prices
My one and only gripe would be that both the food and drinks are a tad on the expensive side. This is expected as it is somewhat of a tourist attraction, but I find myself choosing other bars and restaurants in the area that offer more of a bargain. That being said, I still like to make a point of coming here. It really isn’t that pricey, I’m just kind of cheap about eating out.
